Doris de Pont & Tejo van Schie

Auckland Domain

Fashion details

The dress design is inspired by Cook Islands dancing costumes. The skirt is made from polypropylene sacks by Monokoa Samson. The bodysuit and flowers on the titi [hipband] are handpainted habutai silk and beaded with pupu and other pacific shells. Tejo's suit is designed by Doris. The shirt and coat are also made of habutai silk and the trousers are linen. A replica of this suit was entered in the Benson and Hedges Awards in 1988. It was modelled by Stan Wolfgramm and was the runner up in the menswear section.

The story

Our wedding was a relaxed friends and family picnic event held at the band rotund in the Auckland Domain on 29th November 1987. The dress code was certainly informal with abundant representations of shorts, sundresses and jandals. It also happened to be Dinosaur Day in the Domain so the guest list was very inclusive with a number of accidental attendees who joined us for banana wedding cake and Freixenet.
